I have never been a big fan of fad diets and Whole30 was no different. I saw lots of people on social media pumped to start it and 2 weeks later there was radio silence from most of them.
Before having my son in June of 2014 my body was a mess. After having him I knew I needed to get my life on track and I did. After losing the baby weight I lost an additional 30 pounds! I was feeling great, eating right and walking a lot. It took sometime but I was happy with the results I saw and the lifestyle we as a family we’re living.
Fast forward to August 2017 when I had our daughter. Still living a relatively healthy lifestyle and I told myself, “This will be easy this time around. I already did this once so I can do it again”. I even joined a gym for the first time ever to jump start my journey and start losing the baby weight faster.
After 5 months and not a lot of changes I noticed my body had different plans. My body hurt all the time, my face was riddled with acne and I felt gross all the time. This was not the normal life with a toddler and new baby. From migraines to depression and heartburn to constant fatigue I knew I had to change something. I assumed it might be a bit harder being older and having double the stress but things weren’t looking great.
It’s been almost 6 months since I had our daughter and I’m starting Whole30.
My goals are simple:
- Clearer skin – I’m almost 29 years old and I still has acne. Why? It’s one of life’s cruel jokes. So, if I could see any improvement in my skin and nothing else, I would take a win for the whole Whole30 experience.
- More Sleep – On average it takes me anywhere from 30-60 minutes to fall asleep every night. I also wake up numerous times throughout the night so sleeping better would be ideal.
- Less Bloating – I feel bloated all the time and it makes my mom pooch stick out even more.
- Less Heartburn – After just about every meal, you can find me reaching for the Tums. Not having to consume what feels like 100 antacids a day would be a great health improvement for myself.
I know a lot of people look at Whole30 as a potential weight loss solution(although the book suggests not to) and I am trying to not see it that way too. I do plan to measure my body in certain areas just to see if there is any difference.
