Red, White & Blue Star Rice Krispies

Red, White & Blue Star Rice Krispies

If you are looking for a fun July 4th dessert, you are in the right place.

I used a very small metal star cookie cutter to make the shape. This recipe creates a small batch of these treats but it can easily be doubled. I’m a sucker for rice krispie treats so the less we have in the house, the better.

Making these takes a bit more time an patience then ordinary rice treats but they are worth it.

I wasted the same pot and spatula between each layer to make sure colors didn’t combine in any way.

Red Layer

Ingredients:

1 tbs butter
1 1/3 cup mini marshmallows
2 cups rice krispie cereal
Red food coloring

How To:

In a sauce pan, melt butter on medium heat then add marshmallows. When the marshmallows are melted, turn off heat and add food coloring. Mix well. Next add the rice cereal and combine well.

Move the mixture into a baking dish. Using a piece of parchment paper, spread the red rice krispies into a thin, even layer.

White Layer

Ingredients:

1 tbs butter
1 1/3 cup mini marshmallows
2 cups rice krispie cereal

How To:

In a sauce pan, melt butter on medium heat then add marshmallows. When the marshmallows are melted, turn off heat. Next add the rice cereal and combine well.

Using a piece of parchment paper, spread the rice krispies into a thin, even layer on top of the red layer.

Blue Layer:

Ingredients:

1 tbs butter
1 1/3 cup mini marshmallows
2 cups rice krispie cereal
Blue food coloring

How To:

In a sauce pan, melt butter on medium heat then add marshmallows. When the marshmallows are melted, turn off heat and add food coloring. Mix well. Next add the rice cereal and combine well.

Using a piece of parchment paper, spread the blue rice krispies into a thin, even layer on top of the white layer.

Using a star cooking cutter, cut out the treats and enjoy!

Don’t have time to press out stars? Cut into squares or rectangles to keep the festivities alive!
